What to Look Forward to: A New September

This is the first September that I will not go back to school.

But with this new kind of September, there is a new sort of excitement/anxiety. So to stay positive, and to having deprived this blog of a couple “Picks of the Week,” I will now look ahead for what should be an interesting month.

FOOTBALL. With the Red Sox bumming me out, then making blockbuster deals screaming “give us a couple of years,” and the NHL coming closer to a lockout, I am stoked for the NFL.

For the Pats, there’s plenty of young talent from the draft in Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower, and new talent in Brandon Lloyd, who, as everyone should know by now, I think will have a fantastic season.

There are also last year’s heroes who will be just as exciting to watch, such as the two big tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Devin McCourty and Brandon Spikes could have rebound seasons and Patrick Chung will hopefully stay healthy and continue to develop into a stellar defensive player. And Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork have shown they can anchor this defense, season after season.

Plus more of Brady and Belichick.

PLUS this beautiful, ever-changing fantasy team…

THE MID-SEASON FINALE OF BREAKING BAD. ‘Nuff said. Even though it’s midseason, the ****SPOILER**** last episode has most fans finally changing their alliances away from Walt. (It wasn’t him killing Jesse’s girlfriend, poisoning a kid, holding his wife hostage, or stealing Walter Jr.’s bacon that was the final straw.) Let’s see what happens next….

THE RETURN OF PARKS AND REC AND MODERN FAMILY. With Community slunking about in October, we’ll have to tolerate only two amazing comedies coming back in September. My only worry here is that the baby aspect of Modern Family could be traditional sitcom fluff…but Sofia Vergara (and everyone else, for that matter) is hilarious so it probably won’t.

OMG, EMMA WATSON. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is not (just) about that, it’s about this film adaptation of a wonderful book. It’s a fairly accurate, gripping depiction of the high school years and it should translate into a fantastic film.

RIAN JOHNSON IS THE MAN. I don’t want to spoil any plot points for myself. So check it out yourself!

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED FOR A VIDEO GAME. After having the first Borderlands devour hours of my life this summer, I can truly say that I am incredibly stoked for the newest Gearbox production. What has me so excited is the replayability of the newest one – the creators claim it’s going to be even more expansive – because the first one already had it nailed down.

The characters look amazing, the new landscapes and settings look rich and colorful, the gazillion guns are back and even more plentiful than last game’s millions of guns. This might be the next biggest gaming experience for me since I first ranked in the top 40 of Red Dead Redemption.

This will probably waste even more of my time. But hey, hopefully work will demand even more of me!

DOES CRUEL SUMMER FINALLY COME OUT? Hopefully, and I’m sure Kanye West and GOOD Music disciples will put on a great show for all of us waiting for what they’ll do for hip-hop next.
